Turning Gallery Block into a Slider using Splide

This members-only tutorial provides the steps to convert galleries in WordPress into a slider or carousel using Splide.

After implementing the tutorial, to make any gallery inserted via the WordPress block editor into a slider, add it to a group and give the group a class of splide-slider.

If you would like additional functionality like lightbox with navigation, thumbnails inside the lightbox you may want to use HappyFiles' shortcode,

[happyfiles_gallery]

instead of the WP gallery block.

Step 1

Install and activate My Custom Functionality plugin.

Connect to your hosting account using a FTP client and navigate to site’s /wp-content/plugins/my-custom-functionality-master.

Upload splide.min.css to the plugin's assets/css directory.

Upload splide.min.js to the plugin's assets/js directory.
Create a file named say, splide-init.js in the same location having:
