ACF Local JSON using a custom functionality plugin

This members-only tutorial provides the steps to set Advanced Custom Field's local JSON Save and Load Points to a directory in My Custom Functionality plugin.

Local JSON feature makes it possible for ACF to write (save) the field groups to the file system instead of the database for improved speed and performance.

Also, we can specify additional locations besides the default one for ACF to scan and load .json files off of with the benefit of easy sync via Git for developers.

Local JSON is especially useful when using Oxygen since Oxygen disables the active theme.

Step 1

Install and activate My Custom Functionality plugin.

Step 2

Connect to your hosting account using a FTP client and navigate to site's /wp-content/plugins/my-custom-functionality-master.

Create a directory named say, acf-json.

a) To prevent directory browsing, create a file named index.php having
